When our client acquired this beachfront lot on Lopez Island, they asked us to design a modern vacation home for their family that showcased the beautiful views of Puget Sound and the Strait of Juan de Fuca.

The butterfly roof extends up and out over a twenty-five-foot tall window wall, creating an uninterrupted view of the water from all parts of the house. Each of the bedrooms has an ocean view, including the master bedroom, which sits on a ledge over the kitchen. While the design makes extensive use of glass and steel, we incorporated wood and other natural materials to keep the feel of the house warm and inviting. The freestanding fireplace is a comfortable spot to gather around. Radiant floor heating keeps toes warm when storms roll in, and the stained concrete finish is perfect for sandy feet just in from the beach.
