This couple has worked with us on three houses in East Sacramento, one of Sacramento’s most prestigious neighborhoods. As their family has changed shape with the kids growing up and moving out, they wanted to downsize in space without giving up volume. The small existing house was mostly razed so the new walls could have a taller plate height and shed roofs. Ample glass and volume translates into spaces that feel much larger than the square footage would suggest. Natural materials are combined to provide warmth in an open floor plan with fully glazed end walls bringing the light and views into the house; transoms over eight foot tall glass doors extend the views to the treetops. A small house on a small lot are made to seem much bigger than the footprint suggests.
