The noted artist and sculptor Gerald Walburg has acquired several city lots adjacent to his longtime house and studio. When the lot next door became available, he decided to build a new house for himself and his wife.
The forms of the house are inspired by Walburg’s sculptures in steel and clay, and the materials are consistent with the palette of his work. Cor-Ten siding and painted metal roofing material clad the exterior walls. Concrete block and sculptural steel columns reference the sculptures in the surrounding yards.
Artist and architect collaborated closely on every aspect of the design. The end result is a sculpture that doubles as a house.
Here’s an article about the house from Sacramento Magazine.
