Contemporary lakeside home in
El Dorado Hills, CA

This home capitalizes on a spectacular view of Folsom lake with floor-to-ceiling doors and a covered pergola and patio. The pergola roof is made of translucent skylight material that blocks direct sunlight while letting in filtered light. Clerestory windows bring natural light into the middle of the home. Inside, fiber optic lighting gently illuminates the ceiling above hand-hewn beams, making the beams appear to float. A stone fireplace and entertainment center conceal home theater components. Other features include expansive arches, thick-plastered columns, and slate and Brazilian cherrywood floors. By locating the garage under the bedroom wing on this sloping site, we were able to increase the size of the single-level living area.
